Remembrance Services
In the UK, Remembrance Sunday is the second Sunday of November, the Sunday nearest to 11th November. The 11th of November is Remembrance Day. Remembrance Sunday commemorates the end of the hostilities of the First World War at 11:00am on 11th November in 1918.
Remembrance Service events in Adur
The towns and villages in Adur will remember the tragic loss of life following two World Wars and other conflicts on Remembrance Sunday.
Civic heads and councillors will be present at the events below to lay wreaths and support the Remembrance Sunday commemoration.

- 9:20am - Assemble at the Shoreham Community Centre, Pond Road
- 9:30am - March off via Western Road and Brunswick Road to St Mary de Haura Church
- 10:00am - Remembrance Service in St Mary de Haura Church
- 11:00am - Wreath Laying Ceremony (including Last Post, two-minute silence and Reveille) at the War Memorial in East Street

- 9:00am - Service followed by wreath laying, two-minute silence and reading of names at the War Memorial in the lychgate in the grounds of St Mary's Church, Church Lane, Sompting

The inscriptions read:
On roof beam: “1914 to our glorious dead 1918”
On WW1 names panels: “By Thy Cross and Passion”, “Good Lord deliver them”, “By Thy Glorious Resurrection” and “Good Lord deliver them”
On top of the coffin rest: “1939 - 45”
On tablet: “Garden of remembrance / to the men of Sompting who gave their lives for their country”

Remembrance Service events in Southwick:

- 10:15am - Parade leaves Southwick Square car park (by the Co-op food store)
- 10:45am - Service at the War Memorial on Southwick Green

Opening of the Field of Remembrance at the Worthing War Memorial, outside Worthing Town Hall in Chapel Road.
Remembrance Day (also known as Armistice Day)
Monday, 11th November 2024, 11:00am
Armistice Day, two-minute silence at the Worthing War Memorial, outside Worthing Town Hall in Chapel Road.
Remembrance Sunday
10th November 2024, 11:00am
The annual Remembrance Service and march past will take place at the Worthing War Memorial, outside Worthing Town Hall in Chapel Road.
The two-minute silence will start on the first stroke of the town hall clock at 11:00am.
The Worthing Borough Mayor and others will lay wreaths for the fallen and take the salute at the March Past in front of Worthing Town Hall at approximately 11:30am after the Remembrance Service.
The Mayor of Worthing, said:
“I am extremely proud and humbled to represent my town and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the many local organisations from Worthing and further afield who continue to support our annual Remembrance Service and Parade.”
