Facilities and attractions

Marine Parade is an integral part of Worthing's seaside character and atmosphere. Traditionally the promenade has attracted visitors and residents alike.

The narrow, raised beds that run alongside the road to the east and west of Worthing Pier have previously been used exclusively to plant bedding.

In 2002 a new scheme was introduced that combined areas of bedding with Ilex Oak hedging, a line of eighteen cordylines and shrubs for winter interest, with the intention of enhancing the sea front.

The cordylines when planted measured 13ft tall and were imported from Pistoia in Italy. It is expected that the cordylines over the next decade will grow to 20ft tall.
