Neighbourhood team

The neighbourhood model: one front door

What is the neighbourhood model?

The neighbourhood model is a new approach that brings together local services, making them more personal, efficient, and connected to better serve our communities. By creating a single front door, this model fosters collaboration between teams from across Adur & Worthing Councils and the local community.

Through the neighbourhood model, we will focus on achieving better outcomes for residents and businesses by working closely together, sharing information, and meeting the unique needs of each community.

Adur and Worthing are divided into three neighbourhood areas:

  • Adur neighbourhood
  • Worthing central neighbourhood
  • Worthing suburbs neighbourhood

Each area has a dedicated neighbourhood lead and a team of experts working together to deliver or support local projects.

Together, we can:

  • improve access to services and resources
  • enable communities to help shape their local area
  • empower our residents and improve how we work with them
  • collaborate on meaningful projects
  • use community power to reach our goals

Why we created the neighbourhood model

In Adur and Worthing, we're committed to putting our residents at the heart of decision-making, so that we work with and for communities on the projects they want to shape their local spaces.

By working closely with our community and our partners, we are redesigning our services to make them more sustainable and accessible for those who need them, so we can meet the needs of our residents and communities of both today and tomorrow.

The neighbourhood model will harness the power of our community groups and networks to help our residents, businesses and the local environment to thrive. We'll work with them on the projects that matter most to them, improving our neighbourhoods for everyone.

How can you get involved?

The team is focused on exploring ideas and projects that can positively impact the local community. Our primary aim is to foster initiatives that enhance community wellbeing and engagement, ensuring a vibrant and connected neighbourhood.

We want to hear from the community about ideas and projects that matter to them. During 2025 we will be engaging with residents, community groups and local businesses in different ways to talk about their local neighbourhoods and the community projects that could be created and supported.

As a first step in this journey, we want to hear from you with your ideas and projects. Whether you are a business, an entrepreneur, a community group or a resident, we will review your message and work out how we can best assist you or your organisation.

Some examples of projects include:

  • create or deliver a community initiative
  • set up a community group
  • develop and promote a local business program
  • make your neighbourhood safer and more welcoming
  • identify opportunities to exercise your corporate social responsibilities
  • improve or activate a local route in your area
  • create residents associations
