Who can vote in the general election on 4th July 2024?

All British, Irish, Commonwealth citizens and British citizens living overseas can vote as long as they are registered.

EU citizens CANNOT vote.

I'm not sure if I am registered. How can I check?

You can call the elections office on 01903 221069 or email elections@adur-worthing.gov.uk.

Poll cards for the general election will be sent out around 6th June 2024, but you may receive it closer to the election if you have registered to vote more recently.

What is the deadline for registering to vote?

The deadline to register for the general election is midnight on 18th June 2024.

I'm not going to be here on the date of the election. How can I vote?

If you won't be here on the date of the general election (4th July 2024) then you can apply to vote by post or proxy.

  • voting by post means that your ballot papers are sent to you and you cannot vote at the polling station.
  • voting by proxy means you nominate someone to vote on your behalf at your polling station.

If you want to vote by post you need to return the form to reach our office by 5pm on 19th June 2024.

If you want to vote by proxy you need to return the form to reach our office by 5pm on 26th June 2024.

I want to vote by post. What should I do?

You must complete an application if you want to vote by post.

Forms can be returned by email to elections@adur-worthing.gov.uk or by post to the address printed on the form to be received by our office by the deadline.

The deadline to apply to vote by post for the general election is 5pm on 19th June 2024. You need to return the form to reach our office by then. Please see below for information on when your postal vote will be sent out.

When will I receive my postal vote?

Postal votes for the general election will be sent out around 18th June 2024 if you applied before 31st May 2024.

If you applied after 31st May 2024 then your postal vote will be sent out around 26th June 2024.

They are sent out by first class post.

If you have not received yours by 28th June 2024 you should contact the Elections Office on 01903 221069 for further advice.

How do I know where to go and vote?

If you are registered to vote in the General election your poll card and this will confirm your polling station. If you no longer have your poll card then you do not need it to vote. You can call us on 01903 221069 to find out where you should go to vote.

If you have a postal vote you cannot vote at the polling station but you can drop off your postal vote at any polling station across Adur and Worthing on election day.
